Choose MechAxis for the repair and its follow-up
MechAxis is our recommendation when your workshop needs a clear path from inspection to approval and a structured way to manage the next visit, comeback or fleet decision. Gold covers inspection and inventory work; Platinum adds recovery, warranty and fleet tools. That is a workflow-based reason to choose it. Mechanic Manager advertises a lower headline subscription and built-in accounting, so the MechAxis case should rest on the work you want your team to handle better.
Separate workshop control from business accounts
Mechanic Manager publishes accounting reports alongside bookings, jobs, inspections, stock and service history. Its current homepage advertises $59 a month and names Xero, Repco and Burson integrations. MechAxis focuses on workshop operations and offers a workshop-owned Xero connection with setup validation. It is not a replacement for a complete accounting or payroll package, and does not offer MYOB or live Repco/Burson ordering. Decide which system should own your books before comparing feature counts.
Test a customer who approves only half the work
Use a synthetic vehicle with two findings: an urgent leak and a repair the customer wants to defer. In MechAxis, the advisor prices selected inspection findings and sends the quote for a recorded decision. Accepted work can become tasks without retyping the technician's finding. Keep the deferred item in the vehicle's history. This test shows whether staff can distinguish an observation, a recommendation and an authorised repair when someone calls later asking what was agreed.
Treat a comeback as a case with an outcome
A returned vehicle should not become a collection of unrelated notes. MechAxis Platinum links the case to the vehicle, original work, invoice, supplier and evidence. Staff can record the investigation and claim progression. In the trial, create a case for a supplied component, attach evidence and identify the cost and resolution. Check the same scenario in Mechanic Manager rather than inferring a missing capability from a short public feature list.
Give a fleet customer the right view
When a company pays for several vehicles, a driver's contact record is not the whole relationship. MechAxis Platinum can represent fleet accounts, members, vehicles, drivers and cost centres, with controlled access to documents and approvals. Trial it with two fleet contacts who have different responsibilities. Ask each to open the history and the work awaiting a decision. Choose MechAxis when that structured relationship fits your service contracts and saves your advisor from assembling updates by hand.
Make the extra subscription earn its place
Write down the recurring problem that would justify changing software: lost declined work, unclear repair authorisation, repeated parts claims or a fleet manager waiting for records. Measure the steps needed to resolve one example in each trial. Do not assume a feature guarantees more revenue or fewer mistakes. MechAxis's 30-day trial lets you check the workflow before paying for the plan that contains it.

Common questions
01Is MechAxis the lower-price option?+
That is not the case made here. Mechanic Manager advertises $59 a month on the reviewed page. Choose MechAxis for the inspection, fleet and follow-up workflows you can demonstrate and use.
02Does MechAxis replace my accounting software?+
No. Check your accounting requirements separately. The Xero connection uses the workshop's own account and needs its mappings validated during setup.
